The Week of Guided Prayer is a retreat in the midst of everyday life that is held for one week each spring. This program allows you to both pray and listen to God and find richness in the conversation. Everyone begins and ends the journey together. The week allows you to step away from your busy schedule to be still and allow for a time of reflection. You will be paired with a companion for the week as you read and reflect on scripture, deepening your conversation with God. The program starts on a Sunday and concludes the following Saturday. When I saw the announcement about the program, something pulled me in - it felt like a call to action.

Rocking & Rolling
A Week of Guided Prayer is a retreat in the midst of daily life. The week is based on our trust that God is interested in communicating with us through prayer. Rather than drawing apart from our normal agenda, a Week of Guided Prayer helps us to centre on God in the midst of our regular activities. Praying scripture involves reading a passage until it becomes familiar and then, in a spirit of openness to God, letting our imagination engage the words or story.
We continue to encourage and support individual parishes and Parish Groupings who wish to offer parishioners the opportunity to experience a Week of Guided Prayer. Inviting members of other local Christian Churches to participate, or indeed to be part of the overall planning, can also help to build relationships at that level. A Week of Guided Prayer is a way of making a retreat in the midst of ordinary, daily, busy living. It gives those who participate the opportunity to:. The Week begins with a meeting of the whole group, participants and guides on the Sunday setting the tone for the week ahead. During the week Participants are invited to do two things every day:. Then on the Saturday at the end of the week the whole group, participants and guides gather again to give thanks and to look ahead. The Opening and Closing gatherings emphasise the communal dimension of what is a uniquely personal journey for each participant. The readings became alive and I felt that I learned to pray them not just read them. Talks, books, retreats may not bring you to such a personal encounter with Jesus.
