July 19, Parish Updates. Recently we received the unwelcome news that our churches and church offices are to be closed again. Governor Newsom has made this determination, and Bishop Barnes and our diocese are going along with it. Catholics are heartily in favor of civil disobedience if there is a clear moral issue involved. When, however, there is no clear overwhelming moral issue at stake — and the only thing at risk is my private right to do as I please and not be encumbered or discomforted — our tendency is to go along with civil authority. After all, people will have different opinions about almost anything.
