On August 31, , a collection of almost private pictures of various celebrities, mostly women, and with many containing nudity , were posted on the imageboard 4chan , and later disseminated by other users on websites and social networks such as Imgur and Reddit. The images were initially believed to have been obtained via a breach of Apple 's cloud services suite iCloud , [1] [2] [3] or a security issue in the iCloud API which allowed them to make unlimited attempts at guessing victims' passwords. The event, which media outlets and internet users referred to under names such as the "fappening" a portmanteau of "fap"—a slang term for masturbation —and "the happening" and "Celebgate", was met with a varied reaction from the media and fellow celebrities. Critics felt that the distribution of the images was a major invasion of privacy for their subjects, while some of the allegedly depicted subjects questioned their authenticity. The leak also prompted increased concern from analysts surrounding the privacy and security of cloud computing services such as iCloud—with a particular emphasis on their use to store sensitive, private information. The images were obtained via the online storage offered by Apple 's iCloud platform for automatically backing up photos from iOS devices, such as iPhones. There are claims that unreleased photos and videos exist. The hacker responsible for the leak, who described themselves as being a "collector", distributed the leaked images on the image boards 4chan and Anon-IB in exchange for Bitcoin. Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton also re-posted some of the photos on his blog, but soon took them down and issued an apology, saying "he had acted in bad taste". A major center of activity was the link-sharing website Reddit , [16] where a subreddit was created for sharing the photos; [17] in a single day, it amassed over , followers.

The feds have nabbed one of the cyberfiends involved in the "Celebgate" hack that resulted in intimate pictures of stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Christina Hendricks and Anna Kendrick getting posted online. Ryan Collins, 36, of Lancaster, Pa. Federal prosecutors say Collins used a phishing scheme to get illegal access to over Apple and Google e-mail accounts, many of them belonging to female celebrities. Collins violated their privacy and left many to contend with lasting emotional distress, embarrassment and feelings of insecurity," said David Bowdich, the Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office. Court filings in the case say that between November and September , Collins engaged in a phishing scheme to obtain usernames and passwords for his victims — sending them e-mails to victims that appeared to be from Apple or Google and asking them to provider their usernames and passwords. Collins then used their responses to access their email accounts and find personal information including nude photos and videos, the feds said. Prosecutors said that in some cases, he used a software program to download the entire contents of the victims' Apple iCloud backups. Collins got into the iCloud of 18 female celebrities, "many of which contained nude photographs and videos. While Collins was charged with hacking the accounts, investigators have not uncovered any evidence linking Collins to the actual leaks or that he shared or uploaded the information he obtained. The investigation into Collins came after the feds executed a search warrant at a private home in Chicago last year.

You guys are looking into this wayyyyyyy too much. I say to you, decisions determine destiny. The woman I have feelings for is conflicted on her religion in regards to me. Going back in time, it was never encouraged for people to marry outside their faith and this covered most christian religions in the United States. I think a lot of what you say here really rings true, especially the part about the Date Night. Thanks for these thoughts. Marriage does weird things to Mormons You're correct, that he should ask her these things would you marry a non Mormon. I had been teetering on the fringes for quite a long time, mostly coming to Church but not really being present, because I felt like an outcast as an older single. We are only engaged and as much as I love him, I can't handle the pain of watching my goals and dreams wash away to be at his disposal.
